For as long as I can remember my Dad and Mom have been making wonton soup. It was only made for special parties when all their friends would come over and us girls would get SO excited for the party, but especially the soup. We loved everything about it from getting to help prep the soup to enjoying it with a tall glass of pepsi. Now I make it on the regular for my family, and my girls enjoy the process and the soup just as much as we did growing up.
The BEST Wonton Soup:
1 lb of pork
1 can of water chestnuts chopped
1.5 tsp of salt
1 tsp pepper
2 tsp powdered ginger
3-4 cloves of pressed garlic
4 tbsp soy sauce
Mix all these ingrediants together and let sit in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Flavour is key here so the longer the better. This soup is always better the next day, so make lots!
wonton wrappers ( or dumpling wrappers if you want round ones like i used here)
Campbells regular chicken broth ( its truly the best with this soup and the only kind we ever use)
Bring a pot of water to boil.
After the mixture has sat for up to 24 hrs place a small spoonful into your won ton wrapper and fold in half
Place about 10 wontons in the boiling water and once the water has come back to a rolling boil let them cook for 7 min. This is KEY, you don’t want to over cook your won ton noodles!
Scoop them out when they are done and repeat till they are all cooked. At this point you can let some noodles cool and freeze or if you’re serving a large group ( or just my family) heat up your chicken broth and serve with green onions, salt and pepper on top. YUM!
Thanks Mom and Dad for the memories and teaching us how to make the BEST wonton soup ever!
